Twilight Princess Game ReviewThe most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the maximum limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more unsettling than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs, nor effeminate Pirates.Link is drawn into a dimension that is called Twilight Realm, where he transforms into a Hylian and a wolf while being guided by Midna.GameplayTwilight Princess is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released in 2006 for the Nintendo GameCube system and Wii. The game was highly praised by critics, receiving perfect scores from a variety of publications, including 1UP, CVG, EGM and GamesRadar. It is regarded by many as one of the top games in the entire franchise, and it was the top-selling Zelda game on the PAL market.Twilight princess has a stylized and naturalistic graphics style, similar to that of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, with a more sophisticated graphic engine. It is the first game in the series to feature the full directional control scheme, rather than having a fixed perspective like previous games. This modification was made to work with the Wii console, which comes with an interface that is based on pointing. The GameCube version of the game comes with an area in the back that contains mirror-image maps for players who prefer the traditional fixed view.Link transforms into a wolf once he enters the Twilight Realm. He also encounters Midna, a mysterious creature. She reveals that the kingdom of Hyrule is being taken by a group shadow creatures led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the true ruler of Twili but was usurped by Zant and cursed to her current form. When Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle, a short cut scene shows the soldiers there being killed by the shadow creatures. Link and Midna then escape the castle through an entrance tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.Link can move more freely around the world in the Twilight Realm by using his wolf form. Link can also make use of his senses to navigate around the world. He can sense ghosts of soldiers and animals in the distance. He can also whistle and pick grass from specific patches to summon an animal, such as an Hawk, Epona or other. Link can also whistle near the patches to summon a similar animal.Twilight Princess is no different from earlier Zelda games in that music plays a significant role. Link can play instruments that are musical, such as the flute or harp, to attract and call on various animals. He can also control the wolf's appearance by speaking. Additionally, he could use his compass to guide him around the world and avoid getting lost.CharactersThe Legend of Zelda series is full of colorful characters that leave an unforgettable impression on players. These unique and imaginative characters, from hands emerging from toilets to pirates soaring across vast oceans, are the core of this game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of the previous games, introducing many memorable characters.Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story who are not just interesting, but also plausible. It's an important leap forward that a lot of these NPCs don't exist solely as victims and play a role in the story. NPCs such as Rusl who declares that the forest is more risky now and kidnaps children or the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf to hide his identity when the children are being kidnapped all have unique personalities.Other notable characters include Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin, as well as Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, the cat of Telma who helps Wolf Link locate a secret passageway through her bar and sewer system into the castle, and Faron who's spirit guides Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The two team members defeat the Fused Shadow possessed by Diababa and receives the first Tear of Light.Midna the princess of the Twilight Realm, is also one of the most intriguing characters in the game. She is a part of the Triforce of Wisdom and can shift between her human form and her impish wolf form. She tells Link about her experience at the twilight, and about how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.Zant who is the other half of the Triforce of Wisdom, is an evil sorcerer and ruler of the Twilight Realm. He was banished to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for encroaching on their land and enslaving people. Zant's magic enables him to remain in wolf form, but Midna dispells the power and allows him to transform into his human form as needed.Epona is a better horse that can be used in both wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle near specific grass patches to summon the animal. (similar to Majora's Mask). Twilight Princess is the first game in the series where players can name their horse.ThemeMusic is a crucial element of any Zelda title. It can make a game feel epic exciting, expansive, and captivating. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is criticized as being inconsistent and sporadic and doesn't convey certain emotions. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask and other games have captivating music that bloom at the perfect moment to give you a sense of grandness and eerie.Twilight Princess was composed by Asuka Ohta and Toru Minegishi. Koji Kondo, the composer of the series' first since Wind Waker was responsible for overseeing the composers. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the typical approach to the series, and features a an approach that is minimalist to melody and arrangement. The majority of dungeon and field themes begin with one instrument, creating an atmospheric and eerie atmosphere for the player. Midna's Lament, for instance, uses a simple keyboard to create a sense of sadness in the player.Dungeon themes are among the most well-known examples of this trend towards minimalism, with a number of dungeons featuring a dreary and dark atmosphere. This is most evident in Twilight Realm, which has an eerie soundscape that could be heard in a David Lynch movie. The lack of melody and the classic arrangement of this track enhances its ominous, spooky nature. Drones and strange patterns collide to create a dark and eerie sound.A more uplifting and joyous song is Link's hometown, "Faron Woods." This song uses a variety gentle sounds and strings to create a calm and secure feeling for the player. The song also has an enigmatic reference to the franchise's most well-known scene, as it features the riff which is like the iconic tune that plays at the start of Ocarina of Time. There are also a few dynamic songs in Twilight Princess that change depending on where the player is, what they are doing, and the events that are taking place. Hyrule Castle Town has different versions of the theme for each area of the town. Central Square, for instance, features a more boisterous version. These variations are a great touch that helps to add an element of immersion and depth to the world of Hyrule.StoryThe story of Twilight Princess revolves around Link trying to stop Hyrule from being engulfed by the corrupted parallel dimension referred to as the Twilight Realm. To achieve this, Link assumes the forms of the Hylian and the form of a Wolf and is aided by a woman called Midna.Midna is the first ruler of the Twili however she was overthrown by Zant and cursed into her imp form. The Ancient Sages inform Link and Midna that only the defeat of Ganondorf will be the key to their release from their curse. The Sages reveal that the Mirror of Twilight causes the darkness to be present in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring, where they encounter hostile monsters that kidnap children. starlight princess max win helps them track the children's scent to a nearby bridge and then cross into the Twilight Realm. They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa and win the first Fused Shadow. After that, Faron informs them that the next stop is Eldin Province to the west (Wii) or east (GCN).Midna at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery rock and uses her powers on the ice beneath Lake Hylia. The spirit of Rutela, the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and informs Link that he has to visit the Lakebed Temple in order to gain access to the treasures of Zora.Returning from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, the horse Epona can be again used in Twilight Princess. Unlike the set name used in the two aforementioned games, Link can now decide the name of the horse himself. When they arrive in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link take back the remaining Mirror Shards. The Sages inform Midna that she is the real ruler of the Twili. She was passed by the monarchy and was turned into the god of power. The Sages tell them that they can only be defeated by Ganondorf by bringing him to light and break the pact between the Twilight kingdom and the Hyrule kingdom.
