How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed SensorIn this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.1. Engine Speed SensorIt is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation. If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).It's a bit tricky to test as there are various connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.2. InjectorsYesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. audi lost key replacement shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car can start when the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.I don't know what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!3. Fuel PumpThe fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. audi keys replacement can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.4. ECUaudi keys replacement (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shut down. Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is failing and should be replaced. They're cheap and easy to find, especially when they're an Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.5. TachometerA malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues in your car. It is a crucial part of the Audi's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. If the sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components. The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is the same across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
